October 6, 2023 – Emporia State Soccer drew against Northwest Missouri 2-2 on Friday afternoon from Maryville, Mo.
In the first half of the match, Emporia State played against the wind but were able to generate numerous opportunities in the early stages. The Hornets tallied four shots within the first eight minutes, including a shot off the post from
Mackenzie Dimarco.
Following a pair of shots by the Bearcats in the 10
th minute, one of which forced the first save from
Mackenzi Goen, the Hornets broke through in the 14
th minute with a goal from Dimarco. Northwest Missouri won possession back in their own half but a misplaced pass from the Bearcats saw Dimarco in on goal as she dribbled the goalkeeper to open the scoring and put Emporia State ahead 1-0.
Northwest Missouri was able to even the match with a goal following a corner kick in the 17
th minute before finding their second in the 28
th minute off a headed ball in the center of the box as the Bearcats took a 2-1 lead over the Hornets.
Emporia State wasted little time in search of their second goal as they would tie the match 2-2 in the 31
st minute.
The Hornets earned a throw-in deep in the Bearcat half of the field and the ball came to Dimarco in the in box with a defender on her back. Dimarco was able to beat the defender before slotting the ball between the Bearcat goalkeeper and the post for her second goal of the match.
The second goal from
Mackenzie Dimarco was the 67
th goal of her career, which ties the MIAA career record.
Emporia State and Northwest Missouri entered the halftime break tied 2-2 with the Hornets outshooting the Bearcats 12-9.
Following the break, the second half was back-and-forth with Emporia State having a slight edge with six shots to just five for the Bearcats.
The strongest opportunity for Emporia State to break the deadlock came in the final 20 seconds as the ball fell to
Hadlie Lowe nearly 30 yards from goal. After settling the ball, Lowe took a left-footed shot that was headed towards the top right corner, but the Bearcat goalkeeper was able to deflect the ball over the goal solidify the 2-2 draw.
Mackenzie Dimarco scored two goals, her fifth and six goals of the season.
Emporia State will return to action on Sunday, October 8 as they travel to take on Missouri Western. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 from Spratt Stadium in St. Joseph, Mo.

Mackenzie Dimarco tied the MIAA career goals record of 67 goals which is held by Jada Scott of Central Missouri from 2014-2018.
