January 7, 2023 – The Lady Hornets were within four points of #7 Central Missouri early in the fourth quarter before falling 80-64 on Saturday afternoon in White Auditorium.
Emporia State was able to take an early lead over the Jennies after Central Missouri scored the opening basket of the game. Emporia State responded to the opening basket with nine consecutive points, including seven points from
Tre'Zure Jobe.
Over the final seven minutes of the first quarter, the Jennies outscored the Lady Hornets 18-6 as they ended the first quarter with a 20-15 lead.
Early in the second quarter, both teams traded baskets in the first two minutes, which included 8 points and a pair of threes from Jobe. Following the first two minutes, Central Missouri put together a 15-4 scoring run to open a 40-27 lead, their largest of the first half.
Emporia State fought back as they closed the first half on an 8-0 scoring run entering the halftime break as the Jennies led the Lady Hornets 40-35.
Tre'Zure Jobe led the Lady Hornets with 21 points in the first half on 9-16 shooting. The Lady Hornets were able to force 11 Jennies turnovers in the first half.
In the third quarter, Emporia State trimmed the deficit down to two points early in the half following a Jobe jump shot. Central Missouri was able to extend their lead back to nine points midway through the quarter.
Over the final five minutes of the third quarter, both teams traded points as Central Missouri took a 61-52 lead into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Emporia State struggled to bridge the gap on the #7 Jennies as Central Missouri built their lead up to 19 points in the quarter before finishing the game up 80-64 as the Lady Hornets fell on Saturday afternoon.
Tre'Zure Jobe led the Lady Hornets with 30 points in the game.
Faith Paramore added nine points with
Maary Lakes and
Stevie Stinchcomb each scoring six points.
Emporia State will travel to Pittsburg State on Thursday, January 12. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
NOTES
This was the second 30 point game for
Tre'Zure Jobe this season and seventh of her career.
Tre'Zure Jobe became just the seventh Lady Hornet to score over 1,800 points and now has 1,815. She is just 24 points from tying Tara Holloway (1,839 pts from 1996-2000) for sixth on ESU career list.
