April 22, 2022-The Emporia State men's and women's tennis teams both fell 5-2 at Newman on Friday in the final regular season duals for both teams. The Hornet women have qualified for the MIAA Tournament next week in Edmond, Okla. while the men's season is finished.
Vitoria Mackova and
Karen Santiago Sanchez teamed up to win 6-4 at #1 doubles for Emporia State but Newman took the wins at #2 and #3 to earn the point. Santiago Sanchez won 5-7, 6-2, 6-0 at #2 singles while
Paige Stranghoner picked up a 6-3, 7-6 (7-0) win at #3 singles for the Hornets other point.
The Hornet men started out with a lead as
Luiz Maia and
Pablo Caranza won 6-3 at #2 doubles while
Andy Graf and
Jaden Tredway won 7-6 at #3 to give Emporia State a 1-0 lead. However Tredway was the only Hornet to get a win in singles play as he won 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) at #6 singles.
The Emporia State women now await their opponent in the MIAA Quarterfinals next Friday in Edmond, Okla.
