REGULAR SEASON FINAL
The Emporia State men's and women's tennis teams will travel to Wichita for the final regular season matches at Newman. Due to the forecast of high winds, the women will play at 11:00 a.m. at the Genesis West indoor courts and the men will play at noon at the Riverside Tennis Center.

LAST SETS
Playing their fourth matches in six days both the Emporia State men's and women's tennis teams came up short on the road at Southwestern College on Tuesday afternoon. The Hornet men started the match on top as
Luiz Maia and
Pablo Caranza won 6-4 at #2 doubles while
Andy Graf and
Jaden Tredway won 6-2 at #3 to give ESU the doubles point.Â
Sergio Vera won 6-3, 6-3 at #3 singles but the Moundbuilders won in straight sets at #1 and #6. The other three matches all went three sets with Tredway coming out on top 1-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-6) for the other Hornet point as Southwestern won 4-3. The women played without three of their regular players in their 5-2 loss to the Builders. The Hornets led 1-0 after doubles.
Karen Santiago Sanchez and
Kelsie Burr won 6-1 in their first match at #1 doubles.
Caroline Henry and
Emma Biggs won 6-4 at #3 in their first match together. Burr was the only Hornet to win in singles competition however as she took a 6-2, 6-1 victory at #4 singles.
THE COACH
Les Stafford is 18-22 with the women and 14-19 with the men in dual match play in his third year as the head coach at his alma mater. He is 196-165 in 18 years overall as a head women's coach. Stafford was the head coach of the Wichita State women from 1990-2004 and was a four-time conference coach of the year for the Shockers. He went 178-143 four conference tournament championships and one regular season title. He spent 15 years as the head tennis pro at Crestview Country Club in Wichita. Stafford was a four-time NAIA National Tournament qualifier during his career with the Hornets. As a senior in 1981, he won the CSIC #1 singles and #1 doubles championship. Stafford ended his career by winning three doubles matches and one singles match in his final appearance at the national tournament. Â
A LOOK AT THE HORNETS
The Emporia State women are 7-11, 2-5 in the MIAA and have clinched a spot in the MIAA Tournament.
Micaela McSpadden has played 17 of 18 matches at #1 singles and is 6-11 overall.
Karen Santiago Sanchez is 7-10 overall with a 4-3 record in MIAA play. Victoria Mackova is 7-6 overall with a 5-5 record at #6 singles.
Anastasia Pesic and
Paige Stranghoner are 6-8 overall with a 6-7 record at #2 doubles.
Kelsie Burr and McSpadden are 6-7 overall with a 5-6 mark at #3 doubles. Â
The Emporia State men are 5-9, 1-2 in the MIAA with five of their losses to nationally ranked D2 teams.
Harrison Brown has played 12 matches at #1 singles.
Sergio Vera is 8-4 overall and 4-0 at #5 singles.
Theo Belmonte is 6-7 on the year with a 3-0 mark at #4 singles.
Jaden Tredway is 6-7 on the season. The Hornets have used nine different combinations in doubles with Belmonte and Vera going 8-6 overall, 5-4 at the #1 spot with a 3-0 record in MIAA play.
ABOUT THE JETS
The Jet women are 11-10, 2-5 in the MIAA.
The Jet men are 6-11 overall, 1-2 in the MIAA.
SERIES HISTORY
The Jet women have won six of the last ten meetings with Emporia State.
Newman's men have won six of the last ten duals with the Hornets.

Emporia State fell 5-2 in both men's and women's action against Newman.

Emma Biggs would pick up the only win in singles play with a 7-5, 6-3 win #6. Â
Harrison Brown and
Theo Belmonte got a 6-4 win at the #3 doubles.
Taylor Nelson started the singles play with a 6-0, 6-4 win at #2 while Brown picked up a 7-6, 7-5 win at #4 singles. Â
NEXT SERVE
The Emporia State women have clinched a spot in the MIAA Tournament on April 29 in Edmond, Okla. The men can clinch a spot with a win against Newman and would play on April 27.
