April 1, 2022-The Emporia State women picked up their first ever win in Tahlequah, Okla. with a come from behind 4-3 win at Northeastern State on Friday afternoon.

Doubles play saw the Hornets and RiverHawks tied at 1-1 after
Anastasia Pesic and
Paige Stranghoner evened things with a 6-2 win at #2. Northeastern State would get the point with a 6-4 win at #3 to lead 1-0 going to singles.

Michael McSpadden evened things with a 6-0, 6-3 win for the Hornets at #1 singles before Vera Carvalho put the RiverHawks back in front 2-1 with a win at #2 singles. Emporia State would win the next three completed matches.Â
Andrea Santiago started things with a 6-4, 6-2 win at #5 singles and then Stranghoner put the Hornets in front with a 7-6, 6-4 win at #4 singles.Â
Karen Santiago Sanchez would clinch the dual with a 6-3, 7-6 win at #3 singles to give Emporia State a 4-3 win.

The win evens Emporia State's MIAA record at 1-1 and is their first win over the RiverHawks since a 6-3 win in Emporia on March 9, 2014.

The Hornets will be back in action on Saturday when the travel to Edmond, Okla. to take on #3 Central Oklahoma. First serve from the Broncho Courts on the UCO campus is set for 10:00 a.m. Â
