February 15, 2022-Missouri Western shot 67% in the second half on the way to an 81-67 win over the Lady Hornets on Tuesday night in White Auditorium.
Emporia State got out to an 11-5 lead midway through the first quarter.
Ehlaina Hartman scored her 13
th point of the first quarter with 1:49 left to give the Lady Hornets a 17-14 lead. Mychaell Gray scored at the buzzer to pull within 17-16 after one quarter.
The Lady Hornets went up 25-21 on a
Karsen Schultz layup with 4:50 left in the half. The Griffons would then end the half on a 10-2 run to take a 31-27 lead to the locker rooms. Western then scored the first six points of the second half to go up 37-27 with 8:46 left in the third quarter and force and Emporia State time out. The Lady Hornets scored seven straight out of the timeout to pull within 37-34 less than a minute later. The Griffons would build the lead back up to nine points and Emporia State battled back to within three on two more occasions before heading to the fourth quarter with MWSU holding a 57-51 lead.
Western scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to take an 11 point lead. Emporia State answered with five points off turnovers to cut the lead to 62-56 with 7:45 remaining. That would be as close as the Lady Hornets would get as the Griffons pulled away to the 81-67 final.
Ehlaina Hartman led four Lady Hornets in double figures with 18 points, nine rebounds and three steals.
Kali Martin and
Victoria Price each scored 14 points and
Tre'Zure Jobe added ten points.
The Lady Hornets are back in action on Thursday night when they travel to Northwest Missouri. Tip-off from Bearcat Arena in Maryville, Mo. is set for 5:30 p.m.
