LAST TIME
With five inches of snow and temperatures in the 30's, the Emporia State tennis programs were able to get their season opening matches in thanks to the indoor courts of the new Kossover Family Tennis Complex.  The Hornet men won their MIAA-GAC North Division opener 4-3 over Augustana while the Emporia State women fell 7-0 to the #16 Vikings in non-conference action.

The first action of the day was the women's match and Augustana showed why they are nationally ranked.  The Vikings only lost two games as they took all three doubles matches.  Karen Santiago Sanchez had the closest match in singles play, falling 6-4,6-4 to Laura Arce Vieyra at #3 singles.

The Hornet men can say they are in first place in the conference standings after their 4-3 win over the Vikings.  Emporia State won all three doubles matches, picking up 6-3 wins at #1 and #2 before taking a 7-6 (7-5) win by Luiz Maia and Pablo Caranza at #3 doubles.
Emporia State then took three of the first five singles matches to win the duel.  Serfio Vera won 6-3, 6-3 at #4 singles while Jaden Tredway picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win at #5 singles.  Theo Belmonte earned a 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 win at #3 singles and teamed with Sergio Vera to post a 6-3 victory at #2. For his efforts, Belmonte was named MIAA-GAC North Division Player of the Week.
