EMPORIA STATE SOCCER FALLS 3-1 TO CENTRAL OKLAHOMA

Bronchos score two goals in seven minutes of second half to take win

October 16, 2022-Emporia State outshot Central Oklahoma 16-10 with a 10-6 advantage on goal, but the Bronchos converted three in the second half to take a 3-1 victory over the Hornets on Sunday afternoon on the ESU Pitch.
 
Angela Palmer put the Hornets in front 1-0 in the 23rd minute when she scored off an assist from Abby Bachman.  The goal would hold up over the rest of the half as ESU took a 1-0 lead into the break.
 
The Bronchos tied the match in the 58th minute on a Zoe Ross goal from Amaya Grace.  Less than seven minutes later Grace scored on her own to give UCO a 2-1 lead.  The Hornets got off four more shots with a chance to tie before Becca Tweedy scored with just over four minutes remaining off of Grace's second assist to secure the victory.
 
Emporia State possessed the ball for 58% of the match, took six corner kicks compared to just one for UCO and outshot the Bronchos 16-10 in the match.
 
Emporia State will wrap the regular season next weekend with home matches against Neb.-Kearney and Washburn.  Kickoff against the Lopers on Friday, October 21 is set for 3:00 p.m. on the ESU Pitch.
 
NOTES:
The loss snaps Emporia State's five match winning streak and ten match unbeaten streak.
The loss snaps Emporia State's 27 match regular season unbeaten streak that had dated back to 2017.
With this weekend's action Emporia State has clinched a spot in the MIAA Tournament.
