HOMESTAND CONTINUES
Emporia State will remain home at White Auditorium for a pair of weekend matches against Central Oklahoma and Newman. They will be looking to capture their first MIAA victory of the season.
LAST TIME OUT
Emporia State played in their home opener against #7 Central Missouri where they got off to a hot start, taking the first set from the Jennies 25-21. The Jennies were able to regain the momentum and went on to win the match in four sets.
THE COACHES
Bing Xu is in his 16th year as head coach for Emporia State. He holds a record of 290-199 and has led the Hornets to five NCAA Tournament appearances. He is 8-16 against Central Oklahoma and 9-0 against Newman.
Edgar Miraku is in his ninth season with the Bronchos. He is 210-70 at Central Oklahoma and has five 25-win seasons. He is 15-3 against Emporia State.
Jose Lugo is in his third season with Newman and has a record of 6-33. He is 0-2 against Emporia State.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State has started the season 2-9 after starting out MIAA action with a stretch of tough matches against nationally ranked opponents.
Shelby Ebert leads the way in attack for the Hornets as she nears 100 kills on the season with 92 so far.
Dorianne Lebron has emerged in the middle for the Hornets with with 55 kills in attack and 9 solo blocks and 32 total in defense. Riley Fornelli leads Emporia State with 219 digs on the year.
Riley Bernskoetter has tallied 195 assists so far this season.
SCOUTING CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
The Bronchos were receiving votes in the latest AVCA Division II Coaches Poll and have started the season 10-2. Over the past weekend they defeated Fort Hays State and followed it with a four set victory over Nebraska-Kearney. Courtney Lane leads the Bronchos with 172 kills while Lauren Jenkins and Jenna Carp follow with 103 and 102 kills respectively. Amanda Desch has 304 assists in 12 matches so far this season

SCOUTING NEWMAN
The Jets struggled in 2019 but have started the 2021 season with a 5-5 record through their first 10 matches. Similar to the Hornets, the Jets have opened MIAA action with some difficult matches, including Central Oklahoma and Neb.-Kearney. Salome Romp and Riley Daugherty lead Newman in attack with 152 and 131 kills on the season. Jenna Devore has set them up, tallying 344 assists so far this season.

LAST TIME VS. THE JETS
In the previous matchup in 2019, the Hornets were able to take down the Jets in three sets. In the third set, Newman took an eight point advantage over the Hornets before Emporia State rallied to capture the set and the match.
