September 21, 2021-Emporia State fell in three sets to top ranked Washburn on Tuesday night. The Ichabods won 25-18, 25-15, 25-15 in Lee Arena.
The Hornets fell behind 14-3 and trailed 19-6 in the first set. Emporia State would then go on a 10-3 run to pull within 22-16 before falling 25-18.
The second set saw Emporia State get out to a 5-4 lead before Washburn went on a 15-5 run to go up 19-10. The Hornets played fairly even the rest of the set as the Ichabods went up 2-0 with a 25-15 victory.
Emporia State scored the first point of the third set before Washburn scored seven straight points to start a 12-1 run to take control of the set. WU won the final set 25-15 to close out the sweep.
Orianna Clements hit .294 to lead a trio of Hornets with seven kills.
Shelby Ebert and
Megan Stretton each had seven kills as well. Ebert added two block assists and three service aces.
Rylie Fornelli had a team high ten digs while
Ainslee Stepp had 17 assists.
The Hornets will make their home debut on Thursday when they play host to #7 Central Missouri. First serve from White Auditorium is set for 6:00 p.m. It will be the third top ten Emporia State has played in their last four matches.
