NO DAYS OFF
Emporia State travels to Topeka, Kan on Tuesday to take on #1 Washburn before returning home for a Thursday matchup against #7 Central Missouri. The Hornets will end up playing three top ten teams in seven days, twice playing a team ranked #1 in the nation.

LAST TIME OUT
Emporia State traveled to Kearney, Neb. to take on the top ranked Lopers and made things difficult in the first set before falling in three sets. The following day, Emporia State traveled to Hays, Kan. to take on the Tigers and quickly took the first two sets on the road. The third set was tied 20-20 before the Tigers scored four straight before eventually closing out the set 25-23. Fort Hays State would ride the momentum and take the fourth and fifth set, taking the match 3-2.

THE COACHES
Bing Xu is in his 16th year as head coach for Emporia State. He holds a record of 290-197 and has led the Hornets to five NCAA Tournament appearances. He is 5-29 against Washburn and 5-21 against Central Missouri.
Chris Herron is in his 20th season with the Ichabods. He is 541-108 at Washburn and has five MIAA titles and 15 trips to the NCAA tournament. He is 29-10 against Emporia State.
Flip Piontek is in his 13th season with Central Missouri and has a record of 303-74. He is 16-3 against Emporia State.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State has started the season 2-7 after falling in their opening pair of MIAA matches last weekend. Shelby Ebert and Megan Stretton lead the way in attack for the Hornets with 73 and 63 kills respectively. Dorianne Lebron has emerged for the Hornets on both sides with 52 kills of her own. She has 9 solo blocks and 29 total on the season. Rylie Fornelli leads the team with 180 digs. Riley Bernskoetter leads with 172 assists at nearly eight assists per set.

SCOUTING WASHBURN
 The Ichabods were ranked #1 in the latest AVCA Division II Coaches Poll after starting the season 10-1. Over the past weekend they defeated Fort Hays State in three sets before picking up a road win at #1 Nebraska-Kearney in four sets. Washburn is likely to move up in the next rankings. The Ichabods have Genna Berg and Allison Maxwell who both have over 100 kills on the season. Berg has 139 and Maxwell has 107. As a team they maintain a .319 hitting percentage while holding their opponents to a .141 hitting percentage.

In the previous matchup in 2019, the Ichabods controlled much of the match and defeated the Hornets in three sets.

SCOUTING CENTRAL MISSOURI
The Jennies, who are ranked #7 in the nation, are coming off a sweep in their ranked matchup with Northwest Missouri State. Similar to the attack that Emporia State will face from Washburn, the seventh-ranked Jennies have a pair of hitters that have already eclipsed 100 kills on the season. Kersti Nix has 117 and Audrey Fisher has 101. As a team they hold a .246 hitting percentage while holding their opponents to only a .116 hitting percentage.

LAST TIME VS. THE JENNIES
In the previous matchup in 2019, the Jennies were able to sweep the Hornets in three sets.

UP NEXT
The Hornets will continue their six-game home-stand from White Auditorium as they will take on  Central Oklahoma on Friday, Oct. 1 before taking on Newman the following evening.
