INTO THE BEDLAM STATE
Emporia State travels to Durant, Okla. to open the season at the Southeastern Classic. These will be the first official matches for the Hornets in 657 days. They will take on two opponents from the Lone Star Conference and two members from the Great American Conference.
THE COACHES
Bing Xu is in his 16th year as head coach for Emporia State. He holds a record of 288-190 and has led the Hornets to five NCAA Tournament appearances.
Craig Case is in his 12th year at Texas A&M-Commerce and is 184-127 with the Lions.
Lyndsay Mashe is 88-43 in her sixth season at UT-Tyler.
Nicole Solum-Mitchell is 3-25 in her third year    at SEOSU after starting at the program in 2019.
Kevin Ingram is 402-302 in his 21st year at Southern Nazarene
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
The Hornets return five players from the 2019 season and will have nine player taking the court for the first time in a true regular season match for Emporia State.
Mikayla Simons is a fifth year senior who has played in 80 matches for the Hornets.
Rylie Fornelli ranked eighth in the MIAA in digs as a freshman in 2019.
Shelby Ebert started 26 of 28 matches and had 137 kills and 257 digs during her freshman season in 2019.
Riley Bernskoetter had 164 assists as a true freshman in 2019.
Orianna Clements played in 21 matches with one start as a red-shirt freshman in 2019 and finished the season with 63 kills.
HOT START
The Hornets have won two straight season openers and 12 of their past 15 season opening matches under coach
Bing Xu. All of them have been on the road or at a neutral site.
SCOUTING TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE
The Lions finished the 2019 season 24-7 including a trip to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional. ESU is 2-1 against TAMU-Commerce with the last meeting occurring on October 28, 1995.
SCOUTING UT-TYLER
The Patriots are another first-time opponent of the Hornets. They finished the 2019 season with a 10-16 record.
SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA
The host Savage Storm finished the 2019 season with a 3-25 record. The Hornets are 3-0 all-time against the Savage Storm with the last victory coming on September 8, 2018.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN NAZARENE
The Storm will be the final matchup of the weekend for the Hornets. They finished the 2019 season with a 22-11 record with a GAC Semifinals appearance. The Hornets have won all three matchups all-time against the Crimson Storm with the latest coming on September, 16 2016.
