April 7, 2021-The Emporia State men's and women's tennis teams return to action this weekend with a single match for the men and three matches for the women. Both teams will take on Southern Arkansas on Friday, April 9 starting at 11:00 a.m. on the EHS Courts. The women will then play host to Central Oklahoma on Saturday, April 10 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a Sunday match against Northeastern State starting at 11:00 a.m. on the EHS Courts.
The Hornet men are 6-2 on the season.
Theo Belmonte is 6-2 on the season for Emporia State with a 5-1 mark at the #6 spot.
Andy Graf and
Taylor Nelson are both 5-3 overall with Graf sporting a 5-2 record at #3 singles while Nelson is 4-2 at #2 singles. They have combined to go 5-3 at the #1 doubles spot as well.
The Emporia State women are 5-2 on the year.
Karen Santiago Sanchez,
Cyrielle Peyroche, and
Kelsie Burr are all 5-2 on the season in singles action. Santiago Sanchez has played all of her matches at #1 and Peyroche has been in the #2 slot for all seven matches, while Burr is 5-1 at #4 singles. Santiago Sanchez and Peyroche are also 5-2 at the #1 doubles slot.
The Southern Arkansas men are 8-4 headed into Wednesday's match at Southeastern Oklahoma. The Muleriders are ranked second in the ITA Central Region Rankings and #24 in the ITA National Poll.
The SAU women are 5-9 overall headed into Wednesday's match at Southeastern Oklahoma but are ranked seventh in the ITA Central Regional Poll.
Central Oklahoma is 11-1 on the year, 4-0 in the MIAA and ranked #5 in the ITA National Women's rankings. They have won nine straight matches and have only given up four points during that stretch.
Northeastern State is 5-5 overall and 2-2 in the MIAA headed into Saturday's match at Newman. They are ranked #10 in the ITA Central Regional Rankings.
The next action for Emporia State will be on the road at McPherson College on Tuesday, April 13. First serve from the Bulldog Tennis Center in McPherson, Kan. is set for 2:00 p.m.
