HORNET SOFTBALL SWEPT BY ROGERS STATE

Home run ball does in Emporia State as they fall 6-1, 7-1 in Claremore

April 30, 2021-The long ball did Emporia State in as Rogers State hit six home runs in a double header sweep of the Hornets on Friday in Claremore, Okla.  The Hillcats won game one 6-1 and took the second game 7-1.
 
Game one
Emporia State struck first as Abbey Ward walked and went to second on a wild pitch before Roni Raines singled her home in the top of the first.  Rogers State answered with a two run homer run from Danelle Day and an RBI single from Elexis Watson to go up 3-1 after one.

Jaylan Gibson made it 5-1 with a two run homer for the Hillcats in the second and they got their final run on a Lana Gass RBI single in the fifth.
Abbey Ward was one for one officially but reached base three times thanks to a walk and a hit by pitch as she scored Emporia State's only run. Kelsey Phillips took the loss, allowing six runs on 11 hits through 4.1 innings.
 
Game two
Rogers State used the home run to get ahead early in game two.  Tailee Reding hit a solo homer with one out in the first and three batters later Abigail Taylor delivered a three run home run to give the Hillcats a 4-0 lead after one inning.

The Hornets got on the board in the top of the second without hitting a ball out of the infield.  Cassidy Beem singled to lead off the inning when the Hillcats tried to let her dribbler up the third base line go foul but she was able to reach when it stopped in fair territory.  Beem then went to second on a ground out and to third thanks to a wild pitch.  Rachel Kauss hit an infield single to plate Beem and pull the Hornets within 4-1.

The Hillcats answered with a two run homer from Brielle Tyseling in the bottom of the inning to go up 6-1 and chase starter Sydney RighiKerrigan Dixon came on and gave up two singles before her defense was able to get two force outs at third and fly ball to center to end the inning.

Sabrina Anguiano homered to lead off the bottom of the sixth for Rogers State as the final score was 7-1.

Gabby Biondo, Cassidy Beem, Rachel Kauss, Destiny Ojigoh and Emma Furnish all hit singles for the Hornets.
 
Emporia State will wrap up the season on Saturday at Northeastern State.  Game one of the double header is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. in Tahlequah, Okla.
