Hornet women battling for final MIAA Tournament spot

April 21, 2021-The Emporia State men's and women's tennis teams wrap up their seasons this week.  The men will play their final regular season match on Wednesday at Bethel and will wrap up their spring action on Monday against Barton CC.  The women also play at Bethel on Wednesday and will then play host to Neb.-Kearney and Fort Hays State over the weekend.  The women are battling for the final spot in the MIAA Tournament.
 
The Emporia State women are 6-7 on the year, 0-6 in the MIAA.  Ceyrielle Peyroche is 8-5 overall in singles action with a 6-2 mark in the #2 position. She has played at the #1 position the last five matches.  She has teamed with Karen Santiago Sanchez to go 8-5 at #2 doubles.  Emma Biggs has gone 5-1 on the year at #6 singles with a 1-0 record in MIAA play.
 
The Hornet men are 6-5 on the season.  Harrison Brown is 8-2 overall with a 6-2 record at #4 singles for Emporia State. Theo Belmonte is 8-3 on the season with a 7-2 mark at the #6 spot.  Taylor Nelson are is 6-5 overall with a 5-4 at #2 singles.  Brown and Belmonte have teamed up to go 7-1 in doubles, all at the #3 position.
 
The Bethel men are 10-4 on the season with a 5-3 mark in KCAC play.  The Thresher women are 2-13 with an 0-8 record in the KCAC.  These matches will count as exhibitions for Bethel and regular season duals for Emporia State.
 
The Neb.-Kearney women are 4-12 overall, 1-5 in the MIAA.  The Lopers lone MIAA win is a 7-0 victory over Fort Hays State.  The Tigers are 3-6 on the season with an 0-6 record in the MIAA heading into their match with Newman on Saturday. Emporia State, Newman, Neb.-Kearney and Fort Hays State are all battling for the final spot in the MIAA Women's Tennis Tournament.
 
The top six women's teams will advance to the MIAA Tournament while just the top two men's teams from the MIAA and the top two men's teams from the GAC will meet for the combined MIAA/GAC Tournament.
 
The Hornet men are scheduled to play Barton CC on Monday, April 26 in an exhibition match for their final action of the year. First serve at the EHS Courts is set for 12:00 p.m.
