April 19, 2021-The Emporia State tennis teams were swept by Newman in a pair of MIAA duals on Monday at the EHS Courts.

The women swept the three doubles matches to earn that point.Â
Kelsie Burr and
Silvana Caceres won 6-4 at #1,
Karen Santiago Sanchez and
Cyrielle Peyroche earned a 6-2 win at #2 while
Viktoria Mackova and
Colby Fugit cruised to a 6-1 win at #3.Â
Emma Biggs would pick up the only win in singles play with a 7-5, 6-3 win #6 that tied the dual at 2-2. Newman took a 3-2 lead with #1 and #3 matches on the court and both of those matches went to three sets. Caceres would eventually fall 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 at #4 while Peyroche dropped a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 decision at #1 singles.

The men lost two of three doubles matches with
Harrison Brown and
Theo Belmonte getting a 6-4 win at the #3 position.Â
Taylor Nelson started the singles play with a 6-0, 6-4 win at #2 to tie the match at 1-1. The Jets would win at #5, #3 and #1 to clinch the dual win before Brown picked up a 7-6, 7-5 win at #4 singles. The final match would go to three sets before Belmonte fell 4-6, 6-3 7-5 at #6 singles.

Emporia State's match against Oklahoma Baptist scheduled for tomorrow in Wichita has been canceled and will not be made up. The next action for both the Emporia State men and women is set for Wednesday, April 21 at Bethel. First serve in North Newton is set for 3:00 p.m.
