March 4, 2021-After having home matches with Ottawa University postponed last weekend due to COVID protocols within the Braves program, Emporia State is scheduled to get back in action on Friday with a men's dual at Friends in Wichita. The postponed matches for both the men and women against Ottawa are tentatively scheduled for Sunday at the EHS Courts in Emporia, pending COVID results from the Braves.
The Hornet men opened the season on February 13 at Tabor and came away with a 7-0 victory on the indoor courts in Hillsboro, Kan.
Luiz Maia played at #1 singles for the Hornet men and came away with a 7-5, 6-2 victory while
Taylor Nelson and
Andy Graf won 6-1 at #1 doubles.
Karen Santiago Sanchez led the Emporia State women to a season opening win at Tabor on February 20 and earned her first MIAA Women's Tennis Player of the Week award. She won 6-2, 7-6 at #1 singles and teamed with
Cyrielle Peyroche to win 6-0 at #2 doubles.
Kelsie Burr and
Silvana Caceres won 6-4 at #1 doubles.
