The Lady Hornets did not score until a Karsen Schultz three-pointer with 6:51 left in the quarter and only trailed 6-3.  The UCM lead would reach ten points at 13-3 before Emporia State scored again, this time on a pair of free throws from Tre'Zure Jobe with 4:17 left in the quarter.  That started a 6-0 run for the Lady Hornets who would pull to within 13-9 at the 2:22 mark.  The Jennies would end the period with a 19-12 lead thanks in part to a four of seven performance from the three-point line while Emporia State went just one of six from beyond the arc.

UCM went up 31-23 on Charley Bovaird's fourth three-pointer of the game with 6:01 left forcing Emporia State into a timeout.  Following the timeout the Lady Hornets went on a 7-0 run and Jobe's layup following an Ehlaina Hartman steal pulled ESU within 31-30 with 4:13 left in the half.  Neither team scored again until Nelson hit a three for UCM with 2:40 left.  The teams traded buckets after that as the Jennies took a 36-32 lead to the locker rooms.
