LADY HORNETS PULL AWAY LATE IN 69-58 WIN OVER NORTHWEST MISSOURI

Jobe scores 24 to lead Emporia State

February 18, 2021-The Lady Hornets 22 point fourth quarter to pull away for the win in a 69-58 victory over Northwest Missouri on Thursday night in White Auditorium.
 
Emporia State jumped out to a 7-2 lead only to see Northwest score six straight to take an 8-7 lead with 5:17 left in the first quarter.  There would be three lead changes over the remainder of the quarter as the Lady Hornets led 15-13 after the first ten minutes.
 
The lead continued to see-saw back and forth for most of the second quarter as a Molly Hartnett three with 2:47 left gave the Bearcats a 24-23 lead.  Ehlaina Hartman four free throws around a single charity from Sidney Tinner for a 5-0 run that gave the Lady Hornets a 28-24 lead at the break.
 
The contest stayed close to start the second half as Tre'Zure Jobe got a fast break bucket off a Hartman steal with 4:07 left in the third to give Emporia State a 38-32 lead.  Northwest used an 8-2 run to tie the game at 43-43 with 1:25 remaining in the third quarter.  Jobe would score the final four points of the period to give the Lady Hornets a 47-43 lead headed into the fourth quarter.
 
Jillian Fleming opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to pull the Bearcats within a point before the Lady Hornets went on an 8-0 run to take control of the game.  Hartman started the run with a three-pointer and Karsen Schultz followed with another three-pointer before Daley Handy scored inside to make it 55-46 with 5:30 left.  Northwest Missouri would cut the lead to five with 3:07 left on a Caely Kesten three-pointer but that would be their last field goal until Jaelyn Haggard hit a three with 12 seconds left.  In the meantime Emporia State rattled off nine straight points from four different players to take their biggest lead of the night at 69-55 with 19 seconds left.
 
Tre'Zure Jobe led four Lady Hornets in double figures with 24 points. She was joined in double figures by Ehlaina Hartman with 13 points while Karsen Schultz and Daley Handy each scored 10 points. 
 
The Lady Hornets will play their final regular season home game on Saturday against Missouri Western.  Tip-off for the rare Saturday night game is set for 5:00 p.m.
