EMPORIA STATE MEN FALL AT LINCOLN ON COLD SHOOTING AFTERNOON

Hornets held to 30% shooting in loss

February 13, 2021-Emporia State was within seven points in the second half, but an eight minute span without a field goal would prove costly in an 84-58 loss at Lincoln on Saturday afternoon in Jefferson City, Mo.

Mayuom Buom and Jumah'Ri Turner each scored early to give Emporia State a 4-3 lead but the Blue Tigers answered with an 8-0 run to take a 12-4 lead with 15:00 left in the first half. Duncan Fort scored off a Kong Kong assist with 9:37 left to make it 20-15 but the Blue Tigers used another 8-0 run to go up 28-15 with 7:23 remaining.  The lead was 18 at the final media timeout of the half but Emporia State closed the frame on an 8-2 run over the last 3:07 to pull within 42-30 at the break.  Turner scored seven of the eight points for the Hornets.

Turner then scored the first five points of the second half as Emporia State trailed 42-35 following his old fashioned three-point play with 18:17 left. The Blue Tigers went back up by 12 points with 17:25 left and Dallas Bailey hit a lay-up to make it 47-37 20 seconds later. He then hit two of three free throws after being fouled on a three-point attempt to cut the deficit to eight with 14:49 left. However his field goal would be the last field goal by Emporia State until the 8:44 mark.  During that stretch Lincoln went on an 18-4 run before Mason Thiessen got a turnaround jumper to fall.  The lead would eventually reach 29 points before  the Hornets hit four free throws in the final 1:16 for the final score of 84-58.

Jumah'Ri Turner led Emporia State with 20 points on seven of 12 shooting while the rest of the team went ten of 44 from the field.

Emporia State will be back in action on Tuesday, February 16 when they play host to Northeastern State in a make up game.  Tip-off from White Auditorium is set for 6:00 p.m.
