December 8, 2021-The Lady Hornets shot 70% from the field in the third quarter on their way to a 71-57 victory at Newman on Wednesday night.

The Jets were the team that opened the game on fire as they scored the first nine points of the game and forced Emporia State into a timeout with 7:25 left in the first quarter. The Lady Hornets answered with a 12-4 run to pull within 13-12 at the end of the first.

Christina Walsh scored following an offensive rebound to give Emporia State their first lead at 14-13 to start the second quarter. Carissa Beck hit a three-pointer to give Newman a 20-18 lead with 4:58 remaining in the half. It would be the last field goal of the period for the Jets as the Lady Hornets ended the half on a 7-1 run to take a 25-21 lead to the locker rooms.

Emporia State scored the first five points of the third quarter to go 30-21. Britney Ho scored on an old-fashioned three-point play to make it 30-24 with 7:43 left in the period.
Tre'Zure Jobe reeled off seven straight points in 48 seconds to give the Lady Hornets a 37-24 lead and force Newman into a timeout. ESU forced a ten second violation out of the timeout and
Karsen Schultz hit a three pointer followed by a
Fredricka Sheats put back to give the Lady Hornets a 42-24 lead with 5:32 left in the third.

Two free throws by Amoni White broke the 12-0 Lady Hornet run but Jobe and
Emily Weathers combined to score the next nine points as ESU extended the run to 21-2 and took their largest lead of the night at 51-26 with 2:43 left in the quarter and took a 55-32 lead into the final ten minutes. Newman would not get closer than 14 points the rest of the game.

Playing in her home town and on her birthday,
Tre'Zure Jobe scored 24 points with five assists and three steals. Â Â She was joined in double figures by
Kali Martin and
Karsen Schultz with 11 points each. Although they were outrebounded 36-30 with a 15-6 disadvantage on the offensive glass, the Lady Hornets outscored the Jets 19-7 on second chance points.

Emporia State is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Central Oklahoma. Tip-off from Hamilton Fieldhouse in Edmond, Okla.is set for 1:30 p.m.
