HORNET VOLLEYBALL SWEPT BY BEARCATS

Emporia State falls 3-0 against #5 Northwest Missouri

November 12, 2021 – Emporia State played host to Northwest Missouri on Friday night from White Auditorium. The Hornets fell to the Bearcats 3-0.

In the first set, the Hornets fell behind early with the Bearcats opening a 9-3 and later a 18-7 advantage. Emporia State scored three straight points to make the score 18-10 before Northwest Missouri quickly responded with four straight and 7 out of 10 points to claim the first set 25-13.

The second set started out tight with the Hornets leading 6-4 and then tying up the Bearcats at 10. Northwest Missouri would score six consecutive points from the deadlock and 9
out of 10 points to take a 20-11 lead over Emporia State. The two teams would trade the remainder of the set and the Bearcats took the second set 25-16.

The third set began with back-to-back aces by Riley Bernskoetter before the Bearcats responded with six straight points. Emporia State cut the deficit to 13-11 midway through the set but the momentum wouldn't be enough as Northwest Missouri took a 19-13 lead. The Hornets were able to respond well but were unable to catch the Bearcats as they took the third set 25-19 and the match 3-0.

Shelby Ebert and Leah Mach each tallied 7 kills for the Hornets with Ebert hitting .238 on the night. Riley Bernskoetter recorded 16 assists for the Hornets. Ebert also led the way with 11 digs in defense while Rylie Fornelli six of her own.

The Hornets will conclude the regular season on Saturday, November 13 as they host Missouri Western. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. from White Auditorium.
