January 30, 2021-The Lady Hornets got career highs of 28 points from
Ehlaina Hartman and 13 rebounds from
Fredricka Sheats on the way to an 85-65 victory at Newman on Saturday afternoon.
Tre'Zure Jobe drilled a three on Emporia State's second possession that led to a Jets timeout just 50 seconds into the game. Newman hit a three out of the timeout to tie the game before
Karsen Schultz and Jobe hit back to back threes to give the Lady Hornets a 9-3 lead. Brooke Haney hit the first two-point basket of the game with 6:31 left in the quarter to make it 9-5 before Emporia State went on a 7-0 run to take a 16-5 lead at the 4:41 mark. Newman would not get closer than six points the rest of the game. Emporia State led 22-12 after the first and had a 10-0 advantage in points off turnovers.
The lead stayed between six and 11 points most of the second quarter before the Lady Hornets went on a 7-2 run to take their biggest lead of the half at 42-29 with 20 seconds left on a Schultz put back. Sydney Nilles hit a three with just seven seconds left as Emporia State took a 42-32 lead into the half.
Hartman exploded in the third quarter, hitting four of five from beyond the arc and netting 14 points in the period. Emporia State would only extend the lead by two however as they outscored Newman 20-18 to take a 62-50 lead into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter opened with Hartman and Nilles trading three-pointers before the Lady Hornets went on a 9-0 run to take their biggest lead of the day. Schultz started the run hitting all three free throws after being fouled behind the arc. She then got three on one shot from behind the arc before Hartman got her final trey with 7:16 left to make it 74-53.
The Jets hit back to back three-pointers to cut the deficit to 14 with 4:00 left but Sheats answered with a three-pointer to put Emporia State back up 77-60 before closing out the 85-65 victory.

Fredricka Sheats had 20 points and a career high 13 rebonds while
Karsen Schultz and
Tre'Zure Jobe each scored 15 points while dishing five assists.
The Lady Hornets will wrap up a three game road trip on Tuesday when they travel to Missouri Western. Tip-off of the makeup game is set for 6:00 p.m. in St. Joseph, Mo.
