15-0 RUN PROPELS LADY HORNETS TO WIN OVER CENTRAL OKLAHOMA

Emporia State scored 15 points in just 1:59 of the third quarter

January 21, 2021-The Lady Hornets hit five straight three-pointers in the third quarter and then held on for a 76-73 victory over Central Oklahoma on Thursday evening in White Auditorium.
 
The game was tied at 5-5 three minutes into the game when the Bronchos went on an 11-2 run.  Taylor Dement's three-pointer gave UCO a 16-7 lead with 4:17 left in the opening period. It would be their biggest lead of the night as Emporia State closed the quarter on a 6-2 run and trailed 18-13 after one.
 
A 10-3 Lady Hornet run in the second quarter turned a six point deficit into a 32-22 lead when Tre'Zure Jobe hit two free throws with 2:35 left.  The teams then traded scores and went to the locker room tied at 28.
 
Clary Donica hit at three pointer with 5:05 left in the third quarter to give the Bronchos a 43-40 lead.  Ehlaina Hartman answered with a three-pointer of her own 13 seconds later to ignite a 15-0 run by the Lady Hornets. Hartman hit another three out of the media timeout with 4:21 left.  Jobe then nailed a three following a Donica travel.  Donica travelled again and Karsen Schultz drilled a three to give Emporia State a 52-43 lead with 3:25 left and force UCO into a timeout.  Out of the timeout Emily Weather grabbed a rebound on the defensive end and hit a three-pointer to cap the 15-0 run and give the Lady Hornets a 55-43 lead with 2:53 left in the quarter.
 
Emporia State finished the third quarter shooting 66.7% (12 of 18) from the field and 63.6% (7 of 11) from the three point line while holding UCO to just 38.9% (7 of 18) from the field as they took a 60-48 lead into the final period.
 
Schultz scored on a put back with 9:29 left in the game to five the Lady Hornets their largest lead of the night at 62-49.  The Bronchos then went on a 12-3 run to cut the lead to 65-61 with 5:41 left in the game.  Fredricka Sheats hit a three-pointer to stop the run and Jobe scored on a fast break to push the Lady Hornet lead back to nine points with 5:08 left.   Jobe hit one of two free throws with 1:38 left to give Emporia State a 75-64 lead.  Jacie Littell hit two free throws with 1:24 left for UCO and Kelsey Johnson converted two more from the charity stripe with 48 seconds left to cut the lead to 75-68.  After an Emporia State turnover Kaci Richardson scored to make it a five point game.  Jobe hit one of two free throws to put the Lady Hornets up 76-70 before Brooke Rayner connected on a three-pointer with 12 seconds left to make it 76-73.  After another Emporia State turnover Littell had a chance to tie it but her three point attempt was off and the Bronchos could not get another shot off in time.
 
Ehlaina Hartman and Karsen Schultz led Emporia State with 17 points each while Tre'Zure Jobe added 16 and Fredricka Sheats scored 15 points.
 
The Lady Hornets are back in action on Saturday, January 23 when they play host to Washburn. Tip-off for the Turnpike Tussle is set for 1:30 p.m. in White Auditorium.
