March 10, 2020-The Emporia State tennis teams suffered their first losses of the spring season as they began their spring break trip in Russellville, Ark. The Hornet men fell 7-0 to Harding while the Emporia State women lost 6-1 to Arkansas Tech.
The Emporia State men fell 7-0 to Harding as the Bisons improved to 13-1 on the season.
Harrison Brown and
Anton Levanovich both took regionally ranked opponents to a third set before falling. At #2 singles Brown lost 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 to Arthur Bellan who is ranked 14
th in the region. Levanovich took the region's 16
th ranked player Luis Tirado to three sets at #4 singles before falling 6-1,4-6, 6-1.
The Hornet women started out strong, winning two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
Shannen Meyer and
Silvana Caceres won 6-3 at #2 while
Viktoria Mackova and
Kelsie Burr picked up a 6-4 win at #3 doubles.
Jessica Purdy battled Michelle Koo, who is ranked #46 in the nation in singles, in a 7-6, 7-5 loss at #1 singles.
Both teams are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Magnolia, Ark. to take on Southern Arkansas. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
