LADY HORNETS GET 71-63 WIN OVER MISSOURI SOUTHERN ON ALUMNI WEEKEND

Emporia State has now won 23 straight against the Lions in White Auditorium

February 8, 2020-The Lady Hornets used a 26 point fourth quarter to secure a 71-63 win over Missouri Southern on Saturday in White Auditorium.
 
Neither team could get any separation in the first quarter.  There were six ties and three lead changes in the first ten minutes with the 13-10 Emporia State advantage at the end of the period matching the largest for either team.
 
A Grace Gordon three-pointer gave the Lady Hornets a 20-13 lead with 6:25 left in the half and forced a Lion timeout.  MSSU would close back within three points with 4:15 left when Emporia State went on an 8-1 run to take a 30-20 lead with 2:47 left on a Fredricka Sheats three-pointer.  The teams would play even the rest of the quarter as the Lady Hornets took a 35-25 lead to the locker room.
 
Tre'Zure Jobe had a steal and bucket to give Emporia State a 39-28 lead with 6:59 left and they still led by eight with 3:05 remaining in the quarter.  The Lions then went on an 11-0 run to take a 46-43 lead with 15 seconds in the quarter.  Jobe beat the buzzer with a jumper in the paint to pull Emporia State within 46-45 going to the fourth.
 
The Lady Hornets trailed 50-48 on a pair of free throws from Layne Skiles with 8:52 remaining.  Morgan Laudan converted and old fashioned three-point play to ignite a 9-0 Emporia State run and Jobe capped it with a fast break layup with 6:53 left to give the Lady Hornets a 57-50 lead.  Back to back three pointers from Laudan gave Emporia State a 63-53 lead with 3:01 remaining.  The Lady Hornets hit eight out of eight free throws in the final 43 seconds to pick up the 71-63 victory.
 
Tre'Zure Jobe finished with 22 points, five rebounds, five assists and six steals.  Grace Gordon had 13 points on four of six shooting while Morgan Laudan scored all 11 of her points in the fourth quarter.
 
The Lady Hornets will hit the road for their next four games beginning with a trip to Rogers State on Thursday, February 13.  Tip-off from the Claremore Expo Center is set for 5:30 p.m.
 
NOTES
Tre'Zure Jobe now has 360 points on the year and has moved into fourth in all-time freshman scoring at Emporia State. She passed Casey Henningsen (339 pts in 2003-04), Merissa Quick (341 pts in 2011-12), Stef Quayle (344 pts in 1989-90) and Debbie Glenn (350 pts in 1981-82) on the day.  She is two points away from tying Cassondra Boston (362 pts in 2006-07) for third.
