February 23, 2020-Hornet pitchers held Augustana to the lowest offensive output of either team this weekend as Emporia State earned a split of the four game series with a 7-3 win on Sunday afternoon.

Jarrett Seaton worked a 1-2-3 inning to open the game and the Hornets rewarded him with four runs in the bottom of the first, all coming with two outs.
Josh Norlin got things started when he was hit by a pitch.Â
Connor Hurst singled and both he and Norlin advanced to a base on a wild pitch.Â
Sam Chaput struckout but was able to keep the inning alive on an error by the Vikings catcher as Norlin scored on the play.Â
Paul Claassen followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.Â
Brady Michel then doubled to right scoring Chaput and Claassen before getting thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple.

Augie got on the board in the top of the third thanks to a lead off triple by Sam Baier followed by a ground out to make it 4-1. The Hornets answered immediately in the bottom of the frame thanks to an error by the shortstop, a catcher's interference and two singles. Hurst reached on a one out error and with two outs went to second on Claassen's single. Michel loaded the bases when he reached on catcher's interference and Ryan Krowlikoski delivered a two run single to put Emporia State up 6-1.

Jaxon Rosencranz hit a solo homer in the fourth to make it 6-2 and that would be the last run Seaton would surrender.
Mason LeClair took over to start the seventh and retired the side in order. Augie scored one more run in the eighth thanks to three straight singles but that would be it. Michel answered for the Hornets with a lead off homer in the bottom of the eighth.Â
Alex Debey then pitched a scoreless ninth as Emporia State earned the 7-3 win and split in the four game series with the 17
th ranked Vikings.

Brady was two for three with three RBI and a run scored while Krowlikowski went three for four with two RBI. Seaton allowed two runs on four hit with three strikeouts in 6.0 innings to pick up the win.

Emporia State is scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday, February 25 when they travel to Enid, Okla. for a neutral site game against Southwestern Oklahoma. First pitch at David Allen Memorial Ballpark is now set for 12 noon.
