February 16, 2020-Emporia State batters managed just ten hits while striking out 19 times as the Hornets lost both ends of a double header to split their four game series at Metro State of Denver. The Hornets fell 11-0 and 7-2 at the Regency Athletic Complex in Denver.

Game One
The Roadrunners broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth when Cade Peter hit a two run home run. Metro State added four runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up 6-0. The Roadrunners blew the game open with five runs in the bottom of the eighth.
 The Hornets were limited to singles by
Blake Carroll,
Connor Hurst,
Paul Claassen, and
Jack Maki while striking out ten times in the game. Andrew Repp gave up six runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings as he picked up his first loss of the season.

Game Two
The Hornets got on the board first in the nightcap with a run in the top of the first.
Blake Carroll walked and went to third on
Cooper Minnick's single.
Sam Chaput gave Emporia State a 1-0 lead with an infield single.
Metro State got a two run homer from Dylan Nelson to highlight a four run bottom of the first to take a 4-1 lead. Carroll got an RBI ground out in the top of the second to pull Emporia State within 4-2. Three straight singles in the bottom of the third led to another Metro State run and chased Hornet starter
Jarrett Seaton. Nelson greeted reliever
Alex Debey with a single to make it 6-2. Minnick threw out Owen Reynolds for the first out and after two more singles around a fielder's choice loaded the bases Debey got a ground out to end the inning with the bases loaded. Metro State added a run in the bottom of the sixth on a Zac Walsh sac fly for the final score of 7-2.
Sam Chaput went two for four with an RBI while
Blake Carroll was one for three with a run and an RBI.
Jarrett Seaton allowed six runs in 2.0 innings on seven hits to take his first loss of the season.

Emporia State will make their home debut on Friday, February 21 against #13 Augustana. First pitch of the home opener at Glennen Field in the Trusler Sports Complex is set for 7:00 p.m.
