LADY HORNETS ESCAPE WITH 67-58 WIN AT LINCOLN

Emporia State leads from start to imporove to 15-5 on the season.

February 1, 2020-The Lady Hornets shot just 16.7% from the three-point line but were able to grind out a 67-58 road win at Lincoln on Saturday afternoon in Jefferson City, Mo.
 
Mollie Mounsey scored 27 seconds  into the game to give Emporia State a lead they would never relinquish, The Lady Hornets would jump out to a 7-1 lead but could never completely put away the Blue Tigers.  Lincoln twice pulled within  point in the opening quarter but nine points in the period from Tre'Zure Jobe helped Emporia State take a 16-12 lead heading into the second quarter.
 
The Lady Hornets scored the first nine points of the second quarter to cap an 11-0 run and take a 25-12 lead with 6:25 left in the half.  The Blue Tigers would go on a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 27-21 with 3:09 left before Mounsey was fouled and hit three free throws to push the lead back to nine points. Lincoln got a three-pointer and one of two free throws from Alecia Gulledge around a Fredricka Sheats back door layup and the Lady Hornets led 32-25 at the half.
 
The second half started with five straight points from Lincoln as Natasha Dolinsky's three-pointer pulled the Blue Tigers within 32-30 with 7:40 left in the third quarter.  Jobe scored on back to back layups to push the Lady Hornet lead back to six points.
 
Emporia State would take a five point lead into the fourth quarter at 43-38. They had a six point lead with 6:39 left when Mounsey hit a three-pointer to ignite an 8-2 run and Morgan Laudan capped it with an old fashioned three-point play with 5:10 left for a 60-48 lead.  The Lady Hornets hit five of six free throws in the final 1:39 to ice the victory.
 
Tre'Zure Jobe had 24 points while Mollie Mounsey added 16 points and a career high 12 rebounds to lead Emporia State.  Fredricka Sheats scored 11 and Morgan Laudan had ten points and nine rebounds to join them in double figures.
 
The Lady Hornets return to White Auditorium on Wednesday, February 5 to take on Pittsburg State.  Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
