October 30, 2020-The MIAA announced today that Dr. Aswad Allen will serve as the Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee (ADID) for Emporia State. The ADID was appointed by their university president or chancellor.  

Dr. Allen will serve as the primary point of communication between the NCAA, the MIAA office, and Emporia State for information in regard to inclusive programs, emerging diversity issues, and other related equity initiatives. 
 
In just his second year as the Chief Diversity Officer at Emporia State Dr. Allen has been an active supporter of Hornet Athletics. He regularly meets with Emporia State's coaches and student-athletes both in group settings and individually.  He has also hosted a series of on-line discussions called Humanity First through the ESU Office of Diversity + Inclusuion.
 
He came to Emporia State from University of Colorado where he most recently served as assistant dean, School of Education and Human Development Diversity, Inclusion and Student Engagement and special assistant to the vice chancellor for student affairs. He has over 25 years of experience working with progressively innovative and collaborative student-focused initiatives. 

The designee can be from the athletic department or outside of the department but must be an employee of the institution and have access to student-athletes, coaches, and administrators whether in-person or by other means of communication.
