EMPORIA STATE MEN POST 92-84 WIN OVER CENTRAL OKLAHOMA

Hornets snap three game skid

January 26, 2020-Jumah'Ri Turner scored 32 points on just nine shots as Emporia State defeated Central Oklahoma 92-84 on Sunday afternoon in White Auditorium.
 
The first half saw 11 lead changes and four ties as neither team took more than a five point lead. The Bronchos led 27-23 with 7:44 left when the Hornets went on an 8-0 run to take a 31-27 lead on Dallas Bailey's three-pointer with 3:47 left.  An 8-1 run by UCO gave them a 35-32 lead with 1:17 left in the half.  Turner scored the final nine points, going three of three from beyond the arc, to give the Hornets a 41-36 lead at the half.
 
The Hornets turned it over on their first two possessions of the second half that led to two fast break buckets by Dashawn McDowell.  Bailey broke the run with a three-pointer to put the Hornets up 44-40 with 19:09 left and hit another one after a UCO free throw to give Emporia State a 47-41 lead with 17:53 remaining. The Bronchos answered with a 9-2 run of their own to go up 50-49 at the first media timeout.
 
Tyreek Robinson scored inside for the Hornets with 9:00 left to put ESU up 63-57, only to see UCO go on a 9-2 run to retake the lead at 66-65 with 7:14 left. DJ Basey scored to give the Bronchos a 73-69 lead with 5:21 remaining.  Turner was fouled on a three-point attempt with 5:02 left and the MIAA's leading free throw shooter hit all three to pull the Hornets within a point.  After a Broncho miss Keyon Thomas hit a three-pointer to give the Hornets a 75-73 lead.  McDowell scored inside with 4:06 left to tie the game at 75.  Turner was fouled going into the final media timeout at 3:58 and hit both free throws coming out of the time out to give the Hornets the lead for good. Holding onto a 79-77 lead Bailey drained his fourth three-pointer of the night to put Emporia State up 82-77 with 2:38 left. The Hornets hit eight of ten from the charity stripe in the final 1:10 to ice the win.
 
Jumah'Ri Turner, who had been held to a total of 12 points in his last three games, exploded for a career high 32 points.  He was eight of nine from the field, five of five from beyond the three-point line and 11 of 11 from the free throw line.  Keyon Thomas had 20 points while Dallas Bailey added 12 and Tyreek Robinson and Devin Rottweiler each scored ten points.
 
The Hornets are back in action on Wednesday, January 29 when they travel to Central Missouri.  Tip-off from the UCM Multipurpose Building in Warrensburg, Mo. is set for 7:30 p.m.
