LET'S GET THINGS STARTED
Emporia State opens their 47th season of intercollegiate volleyball and their 15th under coach Bing Xu at the Washburn Invitational. They will take on two NCAA Tourney teams from last year.

THE COACHES
Bing Xu is in his 15th year as head coach for Emporia State. He holds a record of 281-169 and has led the Hornets to five NCAA Tournament appearances.
Jennifer Bahner is 104-53 in her sixth year at Drury.
Carolyn Raynes is 45-109 in her sixth season at William Jewell.
Mario Andaya is 379-256 in his 24th season at Central Washington.
Mark Jones is in his first year at Quincy. He 189-176 in 11 seasons as a head coach.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
The Emporia State volleyball team is picked to finish eighth in the MIAA Coaches Preseason poll. Junior Yuchen Du leads eight returners after earning second-team All-MIAA honors n each of her first two seasons.  Senior Emma Dixon 1,909 assists in her first three years and has a chance to move into the top five on the Emporia State career chart in the category. Emporia State went 14-18 last season with an 8-10 record in MIAA play. They played ten matches against Top 25 teams last season including five set victories over then #6 Rockhurst early in the year and over then #17 Central Oklahoma in the final regular season match of the season.

SCOUTING DRURY
The Panthers were 28-7 last year and tied for the GLVC title. They advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. They graduated four starters but return Taylor Forth who led the team with 1.22 blocks per set last year. Emporia State leads the all-time series 11-6.

SCOUTING WILLIAM JEWELL
The Cardinals were 12-20 last season, 6-12 in the GLVC. Meghan Rhule was voted Co-Most Valuable Player for the team after posting 658 assists and 231 digs last season. Emporia State leads the all-time series 4-1.

SCOUTING CENTRAL WASHINGTON
The Wildcats were 23-6 last season and made their seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament trip. They are ranked #23 in the AVCA Preseason Poll and are led by reigning GNAC Defensive Player of the Year Kyla Morgan. Central Washington won the only previous meeting in pool play during the 1991 NAIA National Tournament.

SCOUTING QUINCY
The Hawks were 12-19 last season, 2-16 in the GLVC. Sarah Brown hit .289 with 2.29 kills and 77 blocks last season. Emporia State leads the all-time series 8-2.

UP NEXT
The Hornets will travel to the foot of the Rocky Mountains next weekend to take part in the Mountain Lion Invitational hosted by UC-Colorado Springs.
