EMPORIA STATE FOOTBALL HITS 50 POINTS FOR SECOND TIME THIS YEAR

Hornets defeat Lincoln 50-7 in Jefferson City, Mo.

September 28, 2019-Emporia State got a school record tying five field goals from Clark Schoonover while Wil Amos had a career high 12 catches for 143 yards as the Hornets defeated Lincoln 50-7 on Saturday night in Jefferson City, Mo.

Emporia State jumped out to a 10-0 lead on a 24 yard field goal from Schoonover and a 42 yard touchdown pass from Dalton Cowan to Dexton Swinehart.  Lincoln got on the board when Chancellor Johnson connected with Dre'Shon Alston for a 35 yard touchdown on fourth down and five with 5:31 left in the first quarter.

The Hornets would score the next 40 points starting with a pair of field goals from Schoonover to go up 16-7.  Cowan and Amos connected five times for 75 yards on second quarter drive, including a 27 yard touchdown to put Emporia State ahead 23-7.  After the Hornet defense forced a three and out, they drove down to the Lincoln one yard line before settling for Schoonover's fourth field goal of the night, this one from 25 yards, as time expired to take a 26-7 lead into the half.

Emporia State forced another three and out on the first Blue Tiger possession of the second half and then marched 53 yards on 13 plays, capped by a one yard touchdown run by Carlos Grace to take a 33-7 lead with 8:10 left in the third.  After another three and out on the ensuing possession the Hornets went 69 yards on six plays with Cowan's three yard touchdown pass to Case Cochran making it 40-7 with 3:56 left in the third quarter.  On the Blue Tigers first offensive play after the touchdown, Gee Stanley intercepted Desmond Hunter to give the ball right back to Emporia State.  An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty moved the ball down to the 14 yard line and Vinnie Shabazz scored his first touchdown on the next play to give Emporia State a 47-7 lead with 3:34 left in the third.

The teams traded turnovers in the fourth quarter with Emporia State getting the ball back on a fumble recovery by Cade Harelson with 10:56 left.  Four plays later Schoonover hit his school record tying fifth field goal, this one from 25 yards out, to put the Hornets up 50-7.
