HORNET SOFTBALL SWEPT BY SECOND RANKED CENTRAL OKLAHOMA

Emporia State falls 6-2 and 10-4

April 19, 2019-Emporia State had early leads in both games before falling in both games at #2 Central Oklahoma on Friday afternoon.  The Hornets fell 6-2 in the first game and 10-4 in game two.
 
GAME ONE
Kenzie Garvin led off the matinee with a double and would score with two outs when Hannah Steeby's high pop up landed between three Bronchos on the infield.  Destiny Ojigoh followed with a double to right field to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead.
The Bronchos would take the lead with five runs on four hits in the bottom of the second.  Halley Randolph had the big hit in the inning for the Bronchos with a bases loaded double that cleared the bases.  JoBi Heath added a solo homer in the fourth for the final score.
 
GAME TWO
Steeby got the Hornets in front in the top of the second when she led off with a single, stole second and went to third on Kelsey Phillips ground out. Ojigoh then singled her home for a 1-0 Hornet lead. 
Heath led off the bottom of the second with a home run to tie the game. C.Jones then doubled down the line and scored on L Dobson's single to give the Bronchos a 2-1 lead.  B. Gilbert made it 3-1 with an single through the left side. Heath hit her second homer of the game in the third to make it 4-1 before the Bronchos added three runs in the fourth to go up 7-2.
UCO scored two more in the bottom of the fifth to go up 9-2 and had the bases loaded when Mackenzie Thornton got a strike out to end the inning and keep the game alive. Gabby Biondo started the sixth with an infield single and scored on a Steeby triple.  Thornton brought Steeby home on a groundout to make it 9-4 going to the bottom of the sixth.  UCO got one of the runs back in the bottom of the sixth with an unearned run.
 
The Hornets will return to action on Saturday at Northeastern State. First pitch from RiverHawk Park is set for 12 noon.
