February 16, 2019- Emporia State men's basketball took the 70-64 win over Northeastern State on Saturday in White Auditorium. In a game full of runs, the Hornets used a 13-0 run late to take the win at home.

Emporia State got on the board first with a Kam Rowan layup at the 18:54 mark in the first half but would trail 9-8 at the first media timeout. Hassan Thomas got an old-fashioned three point play out of the timeout to give the Hornets the 11-9 lead with 14:03 remaining in the half.

The Hornets took their largest lead of the half at 23-17 when Malik Hluchoweckyj knocked down a jumper with 8:31 on the clock. After the RiverHawks tied the game at 23, Thomas broke the Hornets 2:43 scoring drought to take the 25-23 lead with 5:48 remaining. There were five lead changes in the final five minutes of the half as the Hornets would trail 33-31 heading to the break.

After nearly three minutes with no score in the second half, the Hornets break the silence to tie the game on a layup from Aaron McGee with 17:11 on the clock. The Hornets regained the lead at 36-35 with 15:34 remaining before pushing to their biggest lead of the game at 48-39 when Rowan knocked down two free throws with 11:11 on the clock.

The RiverHawks fought back into the game to take a 56-53 lead over the Hornets with 5:01 left in the game. The Hornets tied their largest lead of the game at 65-56 with 1:16 left after Kooper Glick sparked a 13-0 run in which Julius Jackson hit three consecutive threes and capped it off with a made free throw. The RiverHawks hit back-to-back threes to come within 65-62 with 0:50 left.

The Hornets knocked down three free throws in the final 22 seconds to take the 70-64 win over the RiverHawks.

The Hornets outshot the RiverHawks 48.1% - 40.3% from the field and 36.0% - 33.3% from beyond the arc. Julius Jackson led the Hornets in scoring with 22 points on 7-13 shooting. Kooper Glick joined him in double figures with 21 and led the team with seven rebounds. Kam Rowan added nine points while Hassan Thomas finished with eight.

The Hornets will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 21 as they play host to Pittsburg State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in White Auditorium.
