November 19, 2019-The Lady Hornets were held to just .323 shooting from the field in a 77-68 loss at Sioux Falls on Tuesday night in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Emporia State scored the first five points of the game and led 13-6 with 4:17 left in the first half. The Cougars went on a 9-2 run to tie the score at 15 with just under two minutes remaining in the period. Kaely Hummel hit a three-pointer with 22 seconds left to give Sioux Falls an 18-17 lead after the first quarter.

The Lady Hornets trailed by five midway through the second quarter when they went on a 10-1 run and took a 30-26 lead with 1:07 left on a
Mollie Mounsey three-pointer. The Cougars scored the final five points to take a 31-30 lead into the locker room.

Morgan Laudan three-pointer pulled Emporia State within 36-35 before Sioux Falls went on an 11-2 run to open up a ten point lead with 5:28 left in the third quarter. The Cougars took their biggest lead of the night at 57-46 with 1:22 left when
Karsen Schultz and
Tre'Zure Jobe combined on a quick 5-0 spurt to close within six points with 52 seconds left. The Lady Hornets got the ball back with a chance to cut the lead to four but Jobe was called for an offensive foul and Jessie Geer scored with 13 seconds left to give USF a 59-51 lead going to the fourth quarter.

Sioux Falls regained an 11 point lead three and a half minutes into the fourth when Emporia State went on an 8-0 run fueled by their three seniors.Â
Jessica Wayne started it with a put back with 5:48 left and Mounsey converted an old fashioned three-point play with 4:53 left to cut the lead to 67-61. Laudan nailed a three-pointer with 4:00 left to make it a one possession game. The teams traded layups until Mariah Szymanski hit a three-pointer with 2:36 left to give USF a 72-66 lead. Mounsey scored inside with 1:43 left but Hummel hit a three at the other end give the Cougars a 75-68 lead with 1:30 remaining. The Cougars got two free throws with 59 seconds left for the final score.

Mollie Mounsey and
Morgan Laudan each scored 15 points to pace the Lady Hornets while
Jessica Wayne added 13 points. The three seniors went a combined 15 of 33 from the field while the rest of the team as a combined five of 29 from the field. Emporia State did force 18 turnovers and had a 24-12 advantage in points off turnovers but were outrebounded 42-30 and allowed USF to shoot .519 from the field.

After playing four of their first five games on the road to start the season, Emporia State will return to White Auditorium for their next six games. The Lady Hornets will play host to Bethel on Monday night. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
