HORNETS FALL IN TURNPIKE TUSSLE AT WHITE AUDITORIUM

Hornets fall 94-81 to Washburn

January 5, 2019-Emporia State men's basketball fell 94-81 to Washburn on Saturday in White Auditorium. The Hornets fall to 6-6 overall, 1-2 in the MIAA.

The first score of the game came with 19:32 on the clock when Washburn's Tyas Martin knocked down a jumper. Kooper Glick tied the game for the Hornets just 17 seconds later with a pair of free throws to get the Hornets started.

The Hornets held their only lead of the game at 7-6 with 18:21 left in the first half before the Ichabods used a 13-2 run to take a 19-9 lead with 13:12 in the first half. The Hornets had their largest deficit at 51-27 with 3:23 remaining in the first half before heading to the break trailing 53-35.

Julius Jackson scored the first bucket of the second half for the Hornets with 19:47 on the clock to bring the Ichabods lead to 53-38. The Hornets trailed by as many as 22 points at 77-55 with 10:37 remaining in the second half before making a late run to bring the Ichabods lead down to 10. With 1:57 remaining in the game, the Hornets trailed 88-78 before back-and-forth scoring led to a 94-81 finish.

The Hornets were led by Julius Jackson with 21 points on 7-11 shooting. Jackson was joined in double digits by Kooper Glick with 12 and Justin Washington with 10. Sawyer Glick and Malik Hluchoweckyj led the Hornets with five rebounds each.

The Hornets will be back in action on Wednesday, January 9 as they travel to Maryville, Mo. to take on Northwest Missouri.
