January 31, 2019- Emporia State men's basketball defeated Lindenwood 85-68 on Thursday in White Auditorium. Double digit scoring from four players led the Hornets to the win.

Lindenwood opened scoring in the game and would lead 5-0 before the Hornets got on the board with a layup from Justin Washington at the 17:39 mark. Kam Rowan capped a 7-0 run for the Hornets with a layup to tie the game at 16 with 11:09 left in the half.

The Hornets took their first lead of the game with 10:05 on the clock when Sawyer Glick knocked down a three to put them up 21-18. With 4:27 left, the Hornets took their largest lead of the first half at 33-25 when Julius Jackson hit a three on an assist from Malik Hluchoweckyj. Back-and-forth scoring for the remainder of the half led to the Hornets leading 42-38 at the break.

The Lions came out of the locker room to score the first four points and cap off a 7-0 run that started in the first half by tying the game at 42-42 just 30 seconds into the half. After a quick timeout, the Hornets knocked down a three to regain the lead at 45-42 with 17:59 remaining. The Lions would take their only lead of the second half at 46-45 with 15:46 remaining before a layup from Hassan Thomas gave the Hornets their final lead.

That layup from Thomas sparked a 10-0 run that he capped off with an old fashioned three point play to give the Hornets a 55-46 lead with 13:13 remaining. After the Lions cut the lead to 55-50, the Hornets pushed their lead up to 11 at 67-56 with 7:48 on the clock. The Hornets allowed the Lions to come back within 71-65 at 4:08 but would not let up as they quickly pushed their lead back to 13 with 1:41 left.

In the final 1:41, the Hornets outscored the Lions 7-3 to take the 85-68 win.

The Hornets outshot the Lions 47.3% to 43.3% from the field, 42.9% to 26.3% from three point range. The Hornets also shot 21 of 26 from the free throw line for 80.8%. Julius Jackson led the Hornets with 30 points followed by Hassan Thomas who recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Kam Rowan and Kooper Glick each scored 11 points to round out double digit scoring for the Hornets.

The Hornets are back in action on Saturday as they play host to Lincoln. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in White Auditorium.

Julius Jackson is the first Hornets to score 30 points in an MIAA game since Terrance Moore had 38 at Central Missouri on Jan. 10, 2015.
