OPENING UP
Emporia State opens their 46th season of intercollegiate volleyball and their 14th under coach Bing Xu at the Lady Buffs Classic.

THE COACHES
Bing Xu is in his 14th year as head coach for Emporia State. He holds a record of 267-151 and has led the Hornets to five NCAA Tournament appearances.
Sia Poyer is in his sixth year as head coach for Eastern New Mexico.
Jennifer Lawrence is in her 15th year as head coach at Lubbock Christian.
Jason Skoch is in his tenth year as head coach at West Texas A&M.
Lindy Mortensen is in her 13th year as head coach at Adams State.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Emporia State ended last season 15-16, 7-11 in the MIAA. The Hornets have just four new faces joining 13 returners from last season. Returning seniors Julia Joseph, Jamie Hauptman and Tatum Graves look to lead the way for the Hornets. Emporia State was picked eighth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll.

ABOUT EASTERN NEW MEXICO
ENMU finished last season with an overall record of 12-19, 9-11 in the LSC. The Greyhounds are picked to finish eighth in the LSC. Emporia State last met Eastern New Mexico in 2009 when the Hornets swept the Greyhounds 3-0 in straight sets. This will be the fourth meeting between the two teams with ENMU leading the all-time series 2-1 over the Hornets.

ABOUT LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN
Lubbock Christian finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 10-17, 7-5 in the Heartland Conference. The Lady Chaps are picked to finish third in the Heartland Conference. Libero Kelsie French and outside hitter Lauren Zoller received preseason honors for the Lady Chaps. This will be the first meeting between Lubbock Christian and Emporia State.
 
ABOUT WEST TEXAS A&M
WTAMU finished last season with an overall record of 23-14, 12-8 in the Lone Star Conference. The Lady Buffs are picked to finish second in the conference led by seniors Michaela Montgomery and Larami Lancaster. This will be the seventh meeting between Emporia State and West Texas A&M. WTAMU leads the all-time series 4-2.

ABOUT ADAMS STATE
Adams State finished last season with an overall record of 14-14, 10-8 in the Rocky Mountain Athletics Conference. They are slated to finish eighth in the conference in 2018 with a young team led by juniors Grecia Diaz Martinez, Alexia Gerdes and Hannah Goddard. This will be the seventh meeting between the two teams with Emporia State leading the all-time series 4-2 over Adams State.

NEXT SERVE
Emporia State will travels to Kansas City, Mo. to compete in the Rockhurst Classic Aug. 31-Sept 1. The Hornets will take on the University of Sioux Falls and William Jewell on Friday and Colorado Mesa and Rockhurst on Saturday.
