March 23, 2018-The Emporia State men's and women's tennis teams will take on Lindenwood and Southwest Baptist this weekend in the first full weekend of MIAA home action.
Men's Action
The Hornet men are 9-3 on the season, 0-1 in the MIAA after falling at Neb.-Kearney 5-4 last weekend and ranked #40 in the nation. Charles Gortzounian is undefeated at 11-0 on the season, going 5-0 at #2 singles and 6-0 at #3 singles. He did not play in Wednesday's match against Cameron. Oliver Dizon is 8-4 on the year with a 5-2 record at #1 singles. The doubles team of Dixon and Gerard Pont is 7-1 on the year and undefeated at 6-0 at #2 doubles.
Lindenwood is 5-5 overall and 0-1 in the MIAA. Southwest Baptist is 11-2 on the season, 1-0 in the MIAA and ranked #16 in the nation. The Bearcats defeated the Lions 7-2 in their meeting earlier this year.
Women's Action
The Emporia State women are 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the MIAA. Two of their three conference losses have been 5-4. Kaley Clark, Sarah Durham and Shannen Meyer are all 2-4 in singles action. Clark and Durham have combined to go 6-1 at #1 doubles while Meyer and Silvana Caceres are 3-3 at #2 doubles.
Lindenwood is 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the MIAA. They have lost both conference matches 8-1 to Southwest Baptist and Central Oklahoma. Southwest Baptist is 7-3 overall, 1-2 in conference action and ranked #27 in the nation. The Bearcats defeated the Lions 8-1 but fell to Northeastern State 7-2 and Central Oklahoma 5-4.
