EMPORIA STATE SOFTBALL FALLS IN DOUBLE HEADER TO CENTRAL OKLAHOMA

Hornets lose two against Bronchos

March 2, 2018- Emporia State Softball fell in both games of a double header to Central Oklahoma Friday. The Hornets fall to 7-10 on the season, 0-2 in the MIAA.
 
Game One
The Hornets were outhit 9-4 in the game and had two errors to the Bronchos none. Central Oklahoma was the first team on the board with one run in the top of the fourth after teams exchanged outs in the first three innings. The Hornets answered back with a home run from Hailey Cope in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game. The Bronchos took the lead again in the top of the fifth with one run in the inning. After exchanging outs the Hornets tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with one run before giving up two runs in the top of the seventh. The Hornets were unable to answer in the final half inning falling 4-2.
 
Hailey Cope led the Hornets with two hits, two RBI and one run on three at bats. Destiny Ojigoh and Kenzie Garvin each added one hit for the Hornets while Annelise Rockley added the Hornets other run.
 
Montana Mesler spent the game in the circle for the Hornets pitching all seven innings allowing four runs on nine hits with five K's.
 
Game Two
The Hornets were outhit 10-5 with one error in the nightcap. The Bronchos got on the board early with one run in the first inning and two in the third. In the fifth inning each team scored two runs to bring the score to 5-2 before the Bronchos concluded scoring with one run in the top of the sixth.
 
Annelise Rockley, Hailey Cope, Kelsey Phillips, Katy Rae Nordman and Carlie McComb each got a hit for the Hornets in the nightcap. Caitlin VanVleck scored after reaching first base on a walk and being advanced around the bases and driven home by McComb. Cassidy Beem scored on a single through the right side from Rockley in the bottom of the fifth.
 
Kelsey Phillips started in the circle for the Hornets and allowed five runs on eight hits with four K's in four and one third innings before being relieved by Destiny Ojigoh. Ojigoh pitched the final two and two thirds innings allowing one run on two hits.
 
Hornets Softball will be back in action March 6 as they travel to Claremore, Okla. to take on Rogers State in non-conference action.
