EMPORIA STATE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PICKS UP HOME WIN AGAINST NORTHWEST MISSOURI

Lady Hornets win 76-62 over Bearcats

February 7, 2018-The Lady Hornets came out of the locker room well in the first and second halves on their way to a 76-62 win over Northwest Missouri on Wednesday in White Auditorium.

Emporia State used a 9-0 run to take a 17-4 lead by the first media timeout. An Emily Miller jumper with 31 seconds left gave the Lady Hornets a 26-12 lead after one.

The Lady Hornets had a 13 point lead with 7:59 left the Bearcats went on a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 31-23 with 5:21 remaining.  Northwest would pull within five with 1:23 left but Jacee Kramer went on a personal 5-2 run to push the lead back to eight. Jaelyn Haggard scored with just four seconds left for Northwest and Emporia State led 38-32 at the break.
 
Emporia State used a 24-18 advantage in the third quarter with Jacee Kramer scoring at the buzzer for a 62-50 lead headed into the fourth quarter.
 
Northwest Missouri closed to within 68-57 with 6:35 left when Emporia State went on an 8-0 run to take their biggest lead of the game.  When Madison Ralston scored on a transition jumper with 3:35 left the Lady Hornets led 76-57.  The Bearcats scored the last five points of the game and neither team scored in the final 2:41 as Emporia State posted the 76-62 victory.
 
All five Lady Hornet starters scored in double figures led by Jacee Kramer with 14 points. Tyra Jones had 13 points and nine rebounds while Marissa Preston and Jessica Wayne each scored 11 and Morgan Laudan added ten points.
 
The Lady Hornets are back in action on Saturday, February 10 against Missouri Western.  Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. following the Hornet and Lady Hornet alumni games earlier in the day.
