November 6, 2018-Emporia State was held to just .088 hitting in a 3-0 loss to #10 Washburn in the first round of the MIAA Volleyball Tournament on Tuesday night in Topeka, Kan.
The Hornets led 7-4 early in set one before the Ichabods went on a 13-0 run to take control of the set. Emporia State scored the next three points to close within 17-10 but Washburn finished the set on an 8-4 run to win 25-14.
The second set saw the Hornets score the first point before the Ichabods reeled off five straight to take the lead for good on the way to a 25-16 victory.
After falling behind 5-1 to open the third set Emporia State battled back to tie the set at 15. The Hornets trailed 21-20 before the Ichabods ended the match with a 4-1 run to take a 25-21 victory.
Jamie Hauptman had a team high nine kills on .286 hitting but no other Hornet hit above .150 in the match. Taylor Otting had 15 digs and Allie Maloney added 13 digs. Emma Dixon and Yuchen Du combined for 27 assists.
Emporia State ends the season 14-18 on the year.
