November 24, 2018-Emporia State put six players in double figures as the Hornets scored a school record 127 points in a win over Bethel on Saturday night in White Auditorium.
The Hornets led just 9-6 when they went on a 12-2 run to go up by double figures. The run was capped by back-to-back-to-back three-pointers by Hassan Thomas, Malik Hluchoweckyj, and Kooper Glick to go up 21-8 with 13:53 left in the half. A 15-2 run gave the Hornets a 40-14 lead midway through the half and the lead would dip below 25 only one more time on the night.
Emporia State shot .676 from the field in the first half and were 12 of 21 from behind the arc on the way to a 72-33 lead at the break. They cooled off a bit in the second half, hitting just nine of 16 from three, while making .588 of their shots overall in the second 20 minutes.
Hassan Thomas had a career high 30 points on 11 of 14 shooting, including a four of six effort from beyond the arc. Julius Jackson had a career high 21 points while Kooper Glick had 18 points. Sawyer Glick hit five of nine three-pointers for 15 points while Malik Hluchoweckyj and Grant Shell each added 14 points. Hluchoweckyj also had a game high six rebounds and eight assists.
The Hornets are back in action on Saturday, December 1 when they take on Rogers State. Tip-off in White Auditorium is set for 7:30 p.m.
NOTES
The 127 points broke the previous school record of 124 points set against Midwestern State on December 20, 2007 in four overtimes and against Mid-America Nazarene in 1985.
