EMPORIA STATE VOLLEYBALL TAKES #15 CENTRAL MISSOURI TO FIVE SETS

Hornets fall 3-2 to Jennies

October 28, 2018- Emporia State Volleyball fell 3-2 on to #15 Central Missouri on Sunday in White Auditorium. The Hornets fell behind 2-0 early in the match but fought back to tie the match and force a fifth set.

The first set saw twelve tie scores and eight lead changes. The Jennies took the biggest lead of the set at 14-10 after a 6-1 run, but the Hornets brought it back to 14-13 with a 3-0 run of their own. After a tie at 21-21, the Jennies took a 4-0 run to finish the set and take the 1-0 match lead.

Set two saw ten ties and two lead changes before the final points. The Jennies used a 3-0 run to force a timeout as they took a 17-14 lead. The Hornets took the first point out of the timeout before the Jennies finished the set on a 8-2 run. With the set two win, the Jennies took a 2-0 match lead.

Trailing 2-0 in the match, the Hornets jumped out to a 7-0 lead. the Hornets carried their momentum throughout the set never allowing the Jennies to tie the score in the set. The Hornets used two more 3-0 runs midway through the set to keep their lead while the Jennies fought back. The Hornets took set three 25-22 over the Jennies to cut their match lead to 2-1.

The Hornets jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in set four and held the lead until the Jennies tied the score at 14-14. The Hornets took the next two points before back-and-forth scoring with the Jennies. The Hornets regained control of the set with a 4-0 run to take the lead 23-18 before finishing the set 25-20 to tie the match at 2-2.

The Hornets held a 7-5 lead in the final set before the Jennies went on a 5-0 run to take the 10-7 lead. The Hornets were unable to recover as the Jennies held on for the 15-10 set win.

The Hornets had three players record a double-double led by Taylor Otting with 20 kills and 23 digs. Jordan Evans recorded 18 kills and 16 digs while Emma Dixon had 58 assists and 21 digs. Allie Maloney led all players with 34 digs.

The Hornets will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 2 as they take on Pittsburg State in White Auditorium.
