September 29, 2017- Emporia State fell 4-1 to undefeated Northeastern State on Friday. The Hornets fall to 4-4-1 on the season, 0-2-0 in the MIAA.
The Hornets struck first and took the early lead with a goal from Ashlynn Summar on the assist from Tanna Benefiel in the 11th minute of the match. Northeaste State got on the board in the 27th minute on a goal from Paulina Chavez on the assist from Paige Lorenzo to even the score at 1-1. The score remained tied into the second half when Northeasterns Mariah Nicolet scored on an assist from Melissa Giles to give the RiverHawks a 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute. The RiverHawks controlled the match from there, scoring again in the 74th minute when Julia Mathis took a pass from Mariah Nicolet to score from about five yards out to extend their lead to 3-1. Paulina Chavez scored her second goal of the match on an assist from Mariah Nicolet in the 84th minute to seal the game for the RiverHawks at 4-1.
The Hornets will be back in action on Sunday, October 1 as they play host to Central Oklahoma at 2:00 p.m. at the ESU Pitch.
