EMPORIA STATE TENNIS SPLITS WITH ROCKHURST

ESU men win 5-4 in battle of regionally ranked teams, women fall 5-4

April 6, 2017-The Emporia State tennis teams split a pair of duals with Rockhurst on Thursday afternoon at the EHS Courts.  The Hornet men defeated the Hawks 5-4 while the Emporia State women fell 5-4.
The Hornet men took a 2-1 lead after doubles action and almost had a 3-0 lead.  Patrick Cameron and Matheus Mota won 8-5 at #1 doubles while Farhan Sadique and Anton Levanovich won 8-3 at the #3 spot.  Gerard Pont and Oliver Dixon went to a tie breaker before falling in #2 doubles.
Emporia State went up 3-1 when Pont picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at #1 before Rockhurst won three straight, at #5, #2 and #4 singles, to take a 4-3 lead. Levanovich evened the dual with a 6-2, 7-6 (10-8)  at #6 singles.  Cameron gave the Hornets the win with a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7) victory at #3 singles.

The Hornet women got off to a fast start, winning all three doubles matches.  Tawni Griffey and Camila Ramos took an 8-3 win at #1 followed by 8-6 wins at #2 by Sarah Durham and Kaley Clark and #3 doubles by Tahlia Walsh and Amy Fugit.
Rockhurst then rolled off four wins in singles before Griffey picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at #1 to even the dual at 4-4. Ramos battled Rockhurst's Tamara Santos in the final match at #4 before falling 7-6 (7-0), 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) to give the Hawks the win.

The Emporia State men and women will take on Washburn this weekend in individual duals.  The women will take on the Ichabods at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7 with the men scheduled to play at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 8.  Both duals will take place at the Milton Courts in the Kossover Tennis Complex.
