EMPORIA STATE TENNIS WOMEN COME FROM BEHIND TO DEFEAT MISSOURI WESTERN

Hornets win four of six singles matches to take 5-4 win

March, 27, 2017-The Emporia State women trailed 4-3 before taking the final two matches on the court for a 5-4 win at Missouri Western on Monday in St. Joseph, Mo. Four of the six singles matches went three sets.

The Hornets won the first completed doubles match as Kaley Clark and Sarah Durham took an 8-2 victory at #2 over Emilee Dent and Federica Samaso.  The Griffons then won 8-3 at #3 and 8-5 at #1 to take a 2-1 lead into single play.

Durham pulled Emporia State even with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at #2 singles.  Missouri Western went back up by one with a win at #3 singles before Tawni Griffey evened things with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 win at #1 singles.  A Griffon victory at #5 put them within one match of winning the dual.

Camila Ramos held off the loss with a 6-3, 6-0 win at #4 singles.  With the dual tied at 4-4, Lori Ahuja came from behind to post a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 win at #6 singles to give the Hornets the win.

With the victory,, Emporia State improves to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the MIAA.  The Hornet women are back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they play host to Central Oklahoma.  First serve from the Milton Courts at the Kossover Complex is set for 1:30 p.m.
