#11 LADY HORNETS FALL 68-59 AT MISSOURI WESTERN

Emporia State outscored 45-36 in second half

February 11, 2017-The #11 Lady Hornets allowed Missouri Western to shoot .571 from the field in the second half as the Griffons picked up a 69-58 win on Saturday afternoon at the MWSU Fieldhouse.
 
Emporia State jumped out to a 9-1 lead midway through the first quarter only to see Mo. Western go on an 11-2 run to take a 12-11 lead with 1:26 left in the period.  Kathryn Flott hit a layup with 34 seconds left to give the Lady Hornets a 13-12 lead after one.
 
The Lady Hornets had a 20-16 lead midway through the second quarter when the Griffons went on a 6-0 run to take a 22-20 lead with 2:13 left in the half. Flott hit a pair of free throws with 2.9 seconds left to force a23-23 tie at the break.
 
Flott hit two free throws with 4:02 left in the third to tie the game at 31.  The Griffons then hit back to back three-pointers to take at the time their biggest lead of the day at 37-31. The third quarter would end with Missouri Western leading 42-37. 
 
Shelby Baker hit a pair of free throws to pull the Lady Hornets within 42-39 to start the fourth quarter.  Dwanisha Tate scored the next five points to give Missouri Western an eight point lead at 47-39 with 8:10 left.  The two teams would trade scores until Jessica Wayne hit a three-pointer with 5:53 left and then one of two free throws with 4:30 remaining to pull the Lady Hornets within 51-47.  The Griffons responded with 6-0 run, the last five from Tate, to go up 57-47 with 3:06 left.  Kelly Moten hit one of two free throws and Addie Lackey connected on a three-pointer with 2:19 left to cut the lead to six.  Missouri Western would then hit seven of eight free throws in the final 1:21 to seal the win.
 
Kelly Moten and Addie Lackey each scored 12 points while Kathryn Flott had ten points and 15 rebounds for the Lady Hornets.  Emporia State shot just .328 from the field while Missouri Western connected at a .463 clip for the game.  The Griffons scored 17 points off 15 Lady Hornet turnovers.
 
Emporia State is back in action with a Tuesday Turnpike Tussle in Topeka against Washburn.  Tip-off in Lee Arena is set for 5:30 p.m.

NOTES:
Kathryn Flott passed Tara Holloway (815 reb. from 1996-2000) to move into eighth in career rebounding at Emporia State with 819 boards.  She is four rebounds away from tying Emily Bloss (823 reb from 1997-2001) for seventh.
With one block and two steals today Kelly Moten became the first Lady Hornet to have 1700 points, 600 rebounds, 450 assists, 200 steals and 100 blocks in her career.  She currently has 1766 points, 608 rebounds, 457 assists, 200 steals and 100 blocks in 126 career games.
