December 7, 2017-Emporia State got a career high 17 points from Marissa Preston as they handed Neb.-Kearney their first loss of the season in an 85-64 Lady Hornet victory. It is the 23rd straight home win for Emporia State, tied for the second longest home court winning streak in school history.
The Lopers scored the first four points of the game and led 8-5 with 6:38 left in the first period. The Lady Hornets then went on a 14-2 run to take the lead for good. Three Lady Hornets hit at least one three-pointer during the run with Preston scoring six points during the run. Emporia State led 24-15 at the end fo the first quarter.
Emporia State outscored Neb.-Kearney 22-16 in the second quarter to take a 46-31 lead into the break. After scoring the first points of the second half, the Lady Hornets lead would not drop below 18 points the rest of the night.
Preston had 17 points with five three-pointers as every Lady Hornet scored. She was joined in double figures by Tyra Jones with 14 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots. Jacee Kramer and Tatum Graves just missed double figures getting nine points each. As a team the Lady Hornets had a season high 12 blocked shots.
Emporia State is back in action on Saturday, December 9 against Ft. Hays State. Tip-off from White Auditorium is set for 1:30 p.m.
